Hi, I'm Ali. We live in the middle of a hayfield in coastal South Carolina.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes, relatively new to chickens, have had a flock for only about 18 months. Have been wanting chickens since I was a teen, tho, some mumble years ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Have a laying flock of seven production reds headed by Walter, our wonderful red rooster. Also have one lonely little white EE pullet who has been laying for about six weeks, and five assorted young pullets who should begin laying mid November or so. And.... there's gonna be a boxful of chicks in the mail in just a few weeks. Yes, chicken math hard at work.
(3) What breeds do you have? Production reds, the lone EE, one BR and one PrR. Have ordered new fuzzy butts from Meyer - expecting some Speckled Sussex, some Polish, and some Salmon Faverolles, along with some surprise brown egg and rare breed layers.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Um. Did I mention I'm no spring chicken? I honestly can't remember. Been lurking for years.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Reading, embroidery, knitting/crocheting, canning, baking. I've dabbled in a lot of hobbies over the years.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I have three amazing children, whom we homeschool. Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, a lizard and the chickens.
