Hi everyone. My name is Esther, And live in the High Desert with my family of four. We got one Border Collie pup, one old cat, some mice, a hamster and a couple of aquariums and a pond with cat fish and gold fish, quite the menagerie. Anyway, I have been roaming around here for about a month refreshing my knowledge on chicken care and all that. I grew up with chickens, then after I got married we had two Rhode Island Reds who I sadly lost several years ago. And then with home schooling my kids, chickens got put on a back burner. Well, for several months I have been contemplating getting a new flock plus having had to make drastic dietary changes,(I can't eat meat) except for eggs or fish. I decided it would be better to go and get my own girls again. So last month I got four Easter Eggers and one Rhode Island Red. Sadly that one ended up being a cockerel and had killed one of my Easter Eggers over night. Then I noticed one of my Easter Eggers acting more and more like a cockerel so after some calling around and making sure no eating them I got them both great homes. But it left me with a gaping hole in my heart. Come to find out the person that took my Easter Egger cockerel had some chicks, two black sexlinks and two Red Stars. I got all four of them!
They are doing great and I am thrilled that this weekend my husband will start putting together their coop and run for me. Then today I noticed one of my Easter Eggers toes where growing crooked, so I made little shoes up for her out of cardboard, some duct tape and paper tape around her toes. She looks mighty fancy now!
I am looking forward to meeting everyone!
