Long time lurker, brand new member, first time poster! How the heck is everyone doing out there?
Okay, the intro questions I got when I signed up and their answers:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I first got chickens 6 years ago. And, I can't believe I haven't owned them before. OMG! I love them.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We usually like to keep around 12-ish. We have 9 right now. The coyotes, owls, hawks, and Mexican grey wolves make it difficult to protect my babies.
(3) What breeds do you have? Leghorn, silkies, americaunas, and full size and bantam barnyard mixes at the moment.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? They're FUN!! They're free-range on our ranch. So, some of them follow me around as I garden. They are great gardeners, too. They fixed my grub problem in one area of my lawn. There are so many more. Plus, they poop my breakfast.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? In-ground Gardening and Aquaponics. I'm a retired restaurant professional. So, I love cooking and making up interesting cocktails. I'm a guitarist. And,...dogs. I have 5. I'm learning about aquascaping, too.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My wife and I have known each other since we were 10 years old. WE have a 8 year old and a 13 year old. The 8 year old is my little girl. Have have a hell of a fun time together. She's pretty much my best friend. My 13 year old....Well, you know how THAT goes. We have 5 dogs, 1 horse, a bunch of fish, 1 cat, the occaissional neighbor's peahen or peacock, The random baby cow that gets past our cattle guard, maybe a bug here and there, an injured bird or two, and maybe a lizard with a ripped off tail. Heck, just tonight, I caught a baby king snake for my 13 year old. We own a bed and breakfast on a historic ranch in Nogales, AZ. So, this is why all of this is possible.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I think I found out about this through a simple Google search. I've been a fan ever since. Yayyyyy!
