I have a small backyard flock of 5 hens, one of which is a new arrival from my mother in laws flock. I am trying to integrate her, but it is a slow process. She also has really long nails and scaly legs. I am told that she had mites in the past but it was dealt with, but I worry that it might still be an issue and I am now risking my other girls. Just looking for some resources and reading up here.

Hi welcome to BYC. Having dealt with leg mites twice, I can say that they do often leave raised scales. I'd suggest soaking her legs in warm, Epsom salt water, scrubbing away dirt by using a soft toothbrush, and then reevaluate.
You may feel better if you coat her legs and upper feet in Vaseline or coconut oil for a few days.
Good luck to you!
