Hello from the icebox of the nation!

Well at least Silkie roosters are entertaining when they try to crow. Or at least ours is. Kinda sounds like a cross between a cat whose tail has been stepped on and a squeaky balloon. Such a weird sound!

Hopefully you end up with some girls :)
My rooster is sooo loud!! He had a cute squeaky crow for a few months but now, oofda! I think I have 3 hens this time lol, luckily the breeder I found has a rooster return policy, I’m running out of ppl who want them! I may accidentally bring a few more checks home... I mean, it IS a 3 hour drive... and I just want all the colors!

Hi .. from Alaska
Have you raised silkies in Alaska?! I’ve heard we have very similar weather, just never at the same time! I didn’t hear my coop last year, just had a bad feeling overall about it so I erred on the side of caution, but that meant no eggs till April ;( I just have a few silkies now, no production layers, and I’m thinking of using a sweeter heater when temps hit below 30, just to pull the frigid chill, I’ve had a few MN and Alaska friends say they’d rather heat when it really drops than lose birds on -30 stretches too and it has worked well, any winter tricks that work well for you?
