Hello guys, you can call me Homer. I am hoping to learn a lot from you all. I am currently starting my own backyard chicken farm.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes I am new and I just got my first chicken last week, a shamo cross breed I think, and a pair of aseels, I think. Hahaha. I'm not an expert yet and I just brought it from someone. I am also currently looking for heritage breeds locally to really start my backyard free range farm.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Currently, just 3 but I am looking and buying more, either as fertile eggs, chicks, hens, or roos. I am mostly looking for Rhode Island Reds, Australorps, Plymouth Rocks, and Native breeds.
(3) What breeds do you have? Shamo and Aseels, I think. Haha.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Probably taking care of them, watching them grow, having them produce some eggs, and then have some chicks hatched as well. The whole cycle of chicken life.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I like to play sports- basketball and boxing, I enjoy time with my siberian husky and golden retriever, and I am into pc video games as well.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My father owns a gamefarm and I wanna start my own backyard free range chicken farm for personal consumption and hopefully later to be able to sell locally. Right now I offered my shamo and aseels, I think, to cross breed with father's american gamefowls but later on I will use them to improve or upgrade native breeds here in the Philippines. Currently, I am working in our family owned businesses. I have a computer science degree and looking forward to start my own business in retail of computer and tech products. I'd also like to develop mobile apps that are very helpful but simple enough be used by anyone in our community, like for an example maybe a chicken tracking app, where it could use a phone's camera to scan a barcode or qr code from a leg band or wing band to identify a specific chicken, then you can add an update of its current weight, health, number of eggs laid, number of hatched chicks, etc., thru that you can track its progress over time.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? Thru searching the web about chickens and chicken breeds.
