Hello from Northern Indiana.

Last Saturday I pulled into a local Farm Store looking for a pond heater. They had a Coop on display that cause a flash back to when my Grandmother kept chickens. Grandma kept a daily log book on how many eggs collected, how many sold how much the eggs sold for and her feed costs.

So I went and check out the coop on display. I was rather impressed with the construction and the attention to details. Local Dealer/builder too!

With 3 acres of woods and a perfect spot right close to the “shop” I started thinking why not?

So I’ve joined this forum, watch a lot of Youtubes about chickens coops and runs. Now I’m reading the eBook “Chickens For Dummies”.

Howdy!

How soon? Figure I've got a lot of reading and asking to do first. Perhaps late spring of 2012?

What kind? Strongly leaning to Buff Orpingtons. Decent egg layers, Eatable when they reach "retirement" age and can't fly too high (if I got my reading facts correct).

You will love it. Aside from ravenous appetite for fresh eggs, remembering my grandma and her chickens is one of the main reasons I wanted chickens! I can't remember the exact thread but look up longest rooster crow on utube! Makes me laugh thinking about it.
