Hey chicken fam. My name is Elissa, and I’m grateful to join this community. A little about me:
(1) Newish chicken owner. Grew up with them, have had a small flock (4-5) of my own for several years now, recently moved back to the country and am greatly expanding the flock.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have close to 50 birds between standard breed chickens, serama bantams, coturnix quail, and a baby turkey (who will hopefully have more turkey friends soon).
(3) What breeds do you have?
Amerucaunas, Light Brahmas, Sapphire Eggers, Starlight Egger, Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, Serama Bantams
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I feel very connected to my feathered friends and adore being a chicken mama. They have such personalities and are so loving.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Hiking, reading, working on jigsaw puzzles, dancing, playing music (violin, drum, piano), homesteading, traveling, fishing, reading
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I recently started a homestead on 52 acres of beautiful mountain land with our two dogs, all the birds, and many more animals to come. I work in holistic health and wellness and my husband is retired from a long Marine Corp career. We’re grateful to wake up every day and have the freedom to build our dream and live in love. (7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I research a lot of stuff related to my birds and I always find myself reading the forums. I wanted to be able to post so I finally joined. Happy to be here!
