Hi, my name is Bridget.. New to this forum but have read here and there over the last year. Almost an exact year ago, I bought my daughter some chicks and two ducklings.. she was all about them as they were small but slowly lost interest as they got bigger. So being the kinda person I am, took over their upkeep, feeding and what not. Have learned little bits about them and that longhorns can be mean.. lol finally decided to join here with the intent to learn more as I've found that raising these birds has not only been interesting but well, rather fun. And if I can, am planning on getting a few more. They helped keep a lot of bugs down last summer while providing eggs, so it's truly been a win-win for us.

Hi Bridget and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. I guess your daughter's loss is your gain. Keeping chickens is addictive for sure.

I'm not sure where the "other side" is, but you may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
