Hi all. I really enjoy reading all of the interesting information on this site. As I indicated in the thread heading, I am from the PNW. My husband and I live on a small farm and we have recently gotten out of the cattle biz and now grow grass hay. We bought 27 brown egg layer chicks from Murray McMurry Hatchery in April and are anxiously awaiting fresh eggs. We lost 2 pullets in the last week or so to either a weasel or otter. Since then we have reinforced our coop and locked the girls up every night to keep them safe. For now, farming is a part-time job as I am a high school teacher too. Our goal is to eventually get goats so we can have our own milk and try making soap and lotion. We are raising pigs right now as well.
This isn't our first chicken dance. Weve raised chickens for most of our lives, but never more than 6 at a time! Having 25 is interesting and our oldest grandson loves to check for eggs every day. We keep telling him "soon!"
Anyway...it is nice to find a site filled with great info and others interested in raising poultry.
