We are newbies in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Spent the month of May building our coop and moved the girls in a few days ago: 4 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Araucunas. They are about 8 weeks old. All has gone really well so far. I am happy that the stress of racing to complete the coop is over.

We have a nesting pair of Red Tailed Hawks nearby, a family of Red Fox, and plenty of Raccoons so building a secure run was a top priority. We had our first attempt by sly Mr. Fox to test the coop on day three. He gave up. I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him.

We purchased plans from TheGardenCoop.com I was pleased with the quality of the plans and when I needed some help from the seller, he was responsive and helpful. I'm not an experienced builder, but was able to follow the plans. I'd recommend them if you are looking for plans and would be happy to give further opinion if anyone wants.

Now we are enjoying the show. The hens are a riot to watch. And if the price of eggs goes to about $20/dozen our coop "investment" will start to pay off in only about 2 years. ;-)

Yes they are so much fun to watch. When mine free range they will come running to me when I go outside it is so funny to watch them run. Enjoy the chicks and get more chicks. LOL.
