I’m a new chicken owner who raised five silkies from 3 days old.3 turned out to be roosters so I decided to get more hens…. Didn’t quit go as planned. I currently have 8 silkie chickens and 5 of them are Roosters. 😳 I have created a bachelor pad hoping to make it work. I’m here for advice and knowledge!

Thanks,
Hayley

Hiya, Hayley, and welcome to BYC! :frow

I also raise silkies, solely. They are so lovable!

We run rooster-heavy too. It works out great most of the time. When I get too many though, I'll rehome one or two in a poultry group on FB. Silkie roosters are probably the easiest roosters to rehome because they're so adorable. :)

Beautiful chickens and a beautiful set-up!

Sounds like you are a rooster "magnet." I had a similar experience when I added runner ducklings; three of my first four were drakes. So, I kept adding what I hoped would be females. It didn't always work at planned.

Best wishes with your bachelor pad and welcome to BYC! It's a great community of generous and knowledgeable folks who are happy to help others meet challenges and celebrate successes.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Hatching is just asking for too many roosters, 🤣 been there done that! 😅 I don't know why, but nature seems to think we need more boys. I've had luck with bachelor pads, keep the other flocks and gals at a distance and all should be well. (Out of sight, out of mind).

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community!
