OSUman,,getting our feet wet in many ways starting with french Marans,,bought a new Brinsea 190 2 weeks ago,and have 196 french Marans eggs in her now,and have another 80 marans eggs to come when theres room for them.We want to have ready to breed next spring, all the varieties of Marans available with as many distinct bloodlines as possible,,as we have new blood for the Marans breed here, and plan to breed them into existing USA lines,to create new bloodlines, trackable by a pedigree.
We hope with the new blood we have, and availble lines within the USA that has no mixed blood added into it,to hopefully be able to offer 8-9 new bloodlines in French Black Copper Marans alone,,But that is a long ways down the road yet,as we first want to have no less than 50 hens of each bloodline going, dividing them up in groups of 4-5 hens,,then crossing diffrent line roos on each of these small groups of hens.
We also want to start and keep seperate 3 bloodlines of Welsummers, and possibly all 3 color varieties of Penedesencas,Crele,Partridge and Wheaton.I have a lot of fencing to do,and buildings to construct. But I have plenty of room here, and a lot of muscle to use and fat to burn off,so all will be good.
