Glad you decided to join us. Good luck with your coop building and new flock selection.

I cannot recall the source, but read once that the chickens don't eat bees, hope that is true. But do know from personal observation they will eat wasps, mine wiped out a nest I overlooked in their coop. And they show no interest in carpenter bees. I'm sure the beekeepers could give advice, do check out that forum.

Many breeds of chicken would probably work well for you. However, I particularly recommend Wyandottes, if you can get them. My Wyandottes have been beautiful, docile, hardy birds that lay plenty of eggs throughout the year.

My chickens don't eat bees, nor wasps. Only my game birds, OEGB, will eat the eggs from the fire ant piles. Not the adults.
