Hello everyone!

I'm new to BYC, but not exactly new to chickens! Growing up I have raised a few flocks, and, after moving from PA to upstate NY a few years ago, my desire to once again have a flock of my own has been on my mind. My DH and I hope to start our first little flock together once all the snow is gone this year, and I couldn't be more excited. It will give me some time to plan out our flock at least.

My hobbies include gardening, baking, and needle felting. I'm also a freelance watercolor artist, and I would love to start painting chickens and my own flock at some point!

I'm looking forward to learning even more about these wonderful birds from all of you, thank you for having me!

We plan on buff orpington and barred rock at least. :) There's so many lovely breeds, it's so hard to choose just a few! But definitely looking for cold hardy breeds.

Good luck in getting the one's that will make you happy. I had to look for heat hardy breed's because I live out here in the desert.

Thank you! We get so much snow here every year, and it's pretty consistent with below freezing temps the whole winter season. Which breeds did you end up getting that suited your area?
