Hello! My family is planning on raising hens for eggs. We know nothing!! I found this site and am hoping it will help me to get off on the right foot! We are allowed to have 5 hens on our property as we live in town, (and no roosters). Lots to learn, wish me luck!

If you want to raise chickens from chicks, you might want to think of going with the Red or Black Sex Links (they're a hybrid instead of a pure breed). With the sex links, the male and females are different colors at time of hatch so there's less chance of mixing them up. And they are wonderful layers of big brown eggs.

Feel free to ask questions, there's a lot of information available and a lot of friendly, helpful members.

Thanks for joining us!
