We picked up our Golden Comet chicks on Saturday, and they are so much fun! Last night before I went to bed, I stood next to their brooder and watched them sleep---just like I did when my kids were babies!

We noticed this morning that one of them has pastey butt. We got it working, but is this going to continue? She seems to be the littlest one in the brooder. Is there anything we can do to help her out? We both work during the day, so we won't be able to check her out until we get home. #worriedchickenmom.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congratulations on your new chicks :celebrate How exciting for you, raising chicks is so much fun I really love it. Your not alone in standing and watching your chicks even when they sleep i do it too!!

You will need to keep the chicks butt as clean and dry as possible also you can add some apple cider vinegar to the water this should help combat the pasty butt. There are many threads on pasty butt if you type into the search box.

Wishing you the very best of luck, be sure to ask all the questions you need to everyone here to help and very friendly. Enjoy your new babies and BYC :frow

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations on your new flock, Yorkshire coop gave you some good suggestions on the pasty butt, it will usually clear up after a few days, you might want to put olive oil or Vaseline on the butt of the chick that has it to keep the poo from sticking also.

Thanks all for the good advice. I stopped on my way home and picked up so On my way! Braggs ACV. Getting ready to check her bottom right now. Boy, she doesn't like being messes with 'vack there'. She squawked and squawked this morning when I tried to clean her up! What a big baby! Oh! That's right, she is one!

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Bragg ACV is very good for chickens and will help your chick so good job on getting that.

After a few days of cleaning her vent area, she should return to normal. Make sure she is drinking and kept warm.

If poo doesn't want to come off, she has a good reason to carry on- ouch! The Vaseline should make it easier. If you need to soak her bottom to get it off, make sure she is dry before putting back with the others.

when you are ready come on over to the Missouri page
("Calling anyone from Missouri"),congrats on the babies (pasty butt is a pain for both parties involved,it'll get better with the ACV)
