Possible splayed leg chick

Little Derpy looks great!!!! Maybe transition her to her crumbles by wetting them a bit and mixing just a wee bit of egg in so she can get the nutrition she needs and eats her crumbles dry eventually…. She is probably going to be a spoiled teenager as well ;)

What an improvement! Good job you two!

She sure doesn't seem to have any issues with her legs now so either your splint or her just gaining some strength straightened them right out. From what I see, her legs are straight underneath her, and the bit of walking looked fine.

Does she cry like that when under the heat too? She just looks/sounds cold.

If you were able to get her some chick vitamins, I think that would help get her back up to speed, but otherwise, I'd not feed her anything but the chick crumbles. I know you said she ate a lot of scrambled eggs, and that's a good treat, but it shouldn't be her meal, as whilst those are nutritious, they're also missing many vitamins/minerals that her feed provides. Make sure she's drinking water too.

Great job!

She pretty much peeps or crys most of the time. She is currently in her cup under the lamp yelling about something. She is desperate to preen and falls over as soon as she tries. She does tend to cry more when cold. Just before the videos she was peeping softly snuggling my hand. Eyes closed, crashed out and still peeping.

We have accidentally gotten a bit too much heat and in the cup she can't escape. Trying to not cook her.

Getting water with a chick vitamin cocktail in it. I'll get her some more chick slurry going. She has a little egg crumble in the cup with her. Should we worry about medicated feed being a vitamin B blocker? I'm still concerned it's a B difficientcy.

The walking is a TON better than before but I'm still not sure it's a good idea to fully turn her to the wolves (the little one we suspect to be a Sebright is ruthless) as she still can't stand and preen.

Check her vent in case there's something stuck back there hidden in her fuzz. She may hurt or itch back there as they really don't preen so young, but more like pick at something on themselves.

If you have unmedicated chick feed, go ahead and switch her. It's not like Corid and only has a small amount of amprolium in it. We usually feed it a couple of weeks before we're putting them outside, as we're coccidiosis-heavy here.

She is already spoiled! I think she knows it too!

Went and cleaned out her cup, got a couple more dribbles of water and put some dry crumble in there with her. She pretty much toppled over immediately and was laying there preening but peeping softly (it never ends).

She may cry a lot because she’s alone. Being held comforts her, is warm and safe. Do you have a chick that’s not rambunctious (not sure that exists…) that can jab out with Derpy on and off?
Yes. We have been splitting the group from town to time. A couple of them are pretty mild. Just the Sebright is a jerk.

When she is in the cup she is with everyone else and the cup is clear. When she isn't she tends to be with my wife and crys when you try to put her with the others. My wife is gonna be stuck with this one!

She still doesn't have really any balance off perfectly flat ground and high traction.

Back end appears clear, just a big black belly button.

This may sound stupid but here goes. We hatched for a friend in our incubator and one chick had a little splay and weak legs. The cup and tape did not work. I know some say Let nature take it's course...that is not us. I would hold her several (many) times a day in the cup of my hand, she had the support and would "try" to stand and "try" to stand, and would do it. Maybe it was the texture of my hand instead of the smooth cup/glass, she had support all around. She began to use her legs (PT). Around day 3, maybe 4, my husband had an idea. He cut a piece of wood, about 2"W to fit into a box, end to end about 15" L. We placed corrugated cardboard (just ripped the smooth part off a cardboard box) on the floor of her new box/brooder. This gave her traction and the piece of wood (only 2" from the side of the box) almost "made" her stand. She could not fall over to the side. She did not fall forward nor backward but I was listening Constantly. We sprinkled crumbles on the lane/area and she would peck. We had another calm chick in the area outside the wood lane. She began to get stronger, cry less and within a few days, she was doing well.
This may sound silly, but it worked for the chick...and of course, I was praying as I was doing PT with her...that's me.

I hope she is doing better and your wife's BF will love her forever.

We have some of that super sticky kitchen drawer liner in the cup.

As long as we support her from falling she is a menace and trying to cruise all over. Sometimes she gets extra excited and just about jumps out of your hands.

Wonderful that you care so much. We just used the wood for an alley/maze for her to maneuver and get stronger. It seems that she is much better than a week ago. Wonderful, and I hope she continues to progress.
