Hello from Ireland, I'm new to chickens and hatching and I've been reading everything here for weeks. I thought it was about time to join in and say hello. My friend gave me a loan of her incubator and electric hen and a basket of eggs and we had great success, we hatched silkies, polish, marsh daisy's. We kept them for three days and gave my friend back all the chicks, my kids loved every second of it. She gave me another basket of eggs three weeks ago and we have the first one just starting to pip, this time we have pheasants, shamos and who knows what else....exciting not knowing what will hatch out. I have hen and quail eggs ready to put in when these all hatch, we will be keeping the quail and hens......I can see this might become an obsession :)

You must have a natural talent for hatching - so many people do badly time after time.
Really ?? Maybe ignorance was bliss in my case :) I forgot we hatched two goslings in the last batch too. I've read since you shouldn't mix some many breeds, we have a big mixture this time too, so fingers crossed. Two have hatched and a few others have started pipping

from California.

I think you have the ignorance is bliss right. I used to get 100% hatches until I got to technical and now I can't remember what I did for all those great hatches. Think I've totally lost my touch. Sounds like you're having a great time though.

If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask, the wealth of knowledge from the wonderful folk here in byc is amazing, and all are very friendly.
