Hey everyone! I'm 16, and I currently am raising 9 Wyandotts and 1 Australorp in the urban city. It's illegal I know, but I really don't care, since my parents and the rest of my family and I have rescued them from some weird place near the city where they handle the chickens so disgustingly, and keep them in small containers fitting like 20 chickens. We decided to basically adopt 10 (which in my opinion was a few too many), they have been quite cool and fun, and our neighbours don't really notice them due to our fences being pretty high. There are some problems where the older chickens don't let the younger ones eat, which is quite sad, so sometimes we try seperating the chickens who bully the small ones, but they end up continuously doing it.

Anyhow, it's cool to join a forum like this with tons of information! I hope to be somewhat active on here, and hopefully I can learn a lot too!

Hi, welcome to BYC!

I hope you don't get into trouble keeping poultry where you are as it's always so tough to have to give them up once you've bonded with them.

Another feeder or two should help the little ones get to the feed better without competing with the older chickens. That way everyone can spread out more and not fuss over the same feeder. (Do the same with another waterer.)

Hope it all works out well for you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

You may have to partition off an area of coop/run so the smaller birds get to eat, drink and have less stress in their lives. With feathery bodies, often it is hard to notice birds losing weight - do try to get hands on them to see they aren't starving.

Thank you for the welcome guys! This really does seem like a great community :)

So today my brother and I let the chickens out in to thee backyard and they just love the grass so much, is it ok for them to eat the weeds in the backyard? I seen a post that said it was OK but I'm not too sure. Thanks!
