Hello new friends! I’m still figuring out the site, but wanted to introduce myself! I’m starting my first flock this September and am so excited. I’m going to turn my backyard playhouse/treehouse into a coop with a run underneath. I’ll cut a trap door into the floor and make a ramp for the chicks to get down easily. The coop is about 4 ft above the ground. I’m going to start with 6 chicks.

I like your plan! If it's anything like my projects, it will evolve as you're working on it.

Will look forward to seeing the finished product. I'm hoping you plan to use hardware cloth, not chicken wire to enclose it.

Welcome to BYC! Let us know when you get those chicks, and photos of the finished (and occupied) coop would be great!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
The trap door method can be difficult to work with as the chickens can easily kick the bedding down the hole and the area under the playhouse isn't really large enough for the run. Some of the run can go under it and would be a great place to leave the feed and water but chickens need 15 sq ft per bird in the run, 4 sq ft per bird in the coop and 1 linear ft of roost space per bird.
