Hello Everyone!

I have 13 chickens, 4 Rhode Island Reds and 3 buff brahmas are a year old. We just added 6 white leghorns to our flock for some white eggs. I just put them in the coop with the yearling chickens. They are getting along well. Only issue is that we free range and they want to keep laying their eggs where we raised them as chicks. (They started laying a week earlier than I anticipated so my timing is off for the coop transfer). Am I supposed to leave them in the coop for a few days so they get used to the new space? I am not sure and they didn't want to go in yesterday so we left them all inside today and they were successful at laying their eggs in the nesting boxes so I am hoping they are getting the idea of where the eggs are supposed to go.

Thanks for the potential advice.

! Pleased you joined us! Yes, that is what I would do - keep them in the coop so they get used to laying there and it should become normal to them. Good luck to you!

Welcome to BYC! I would keep them locked up for at least a week so they return to lay/roost. Good luck to you.
