I am a new " chicken momma" We recently bought a house and inherited a chicken .. I am not sure what she is exactly .. maybe a road island red? But the woman whom we bought the home from said that she was not laying anymore. I found out that they were only feeding her cracked corn, and according to my research that is not nearly enough nutrients. So I quickly changed her feed to laying pellets and also feed her cracked corn as a suppliment as well as leafy greens and treats. Two weeks later she layed an egg!
I am getting maybe one egg a week but I am excited that I helped her to be more healthy at productive .. She is such a doll she likes to follow me around the yard its very adorable.
We plan to get some chicks in the spring time which will only add to the fun!
