Hello! We came across this site while researching backyard chickens last winter. We started with 12 chicks last spring, but our current flock includes a Leghorn, a Red Star, two Blue Laced Wyandottes, three Barred Rocks, and one Barred Rock Roo. This is "Chickens, Take 4" for us, since we have lost a total of 20 birds to our next door neighbor's marauding Pit Bills since November
(we now have Animal Control on speed dial). Our children, ages 2 and 5, have really enjoyed the whole process (minus the dead chicken part), and of course we love the eggs, so we are persevering. We knew nothing about chickens prior to starting this little adventure, but we are looking forward to learning more as we go.
