My DH and I are new to chickens and to BYC. We recently brought home six chicks -- 4 Golden Comets, and 2 White Leghorns from a local store. As first-timers as we felt sure if we purchased anything but pullets with our luck we would surely end up with 6 roosters! We didn't have a choice on breed (and after thinking about it for 3 years, once decided, I had to have the chicks NOW,) but the man at the store was fairly accurate with his description of each breed compared to what this site says so I think we were lucky in our purchase. They are very sweet and at 10 days old appear to be thriving. My husband is teasing me that the chicks have requested Fiji Water and personalized electric blankets because I am working on the theory, that much like a newborn baby, you can't spoil a chick.
