Hi all!

I'm officially a newbie to BYC but I've been creeping on the site learning about how to raise my chickens for several months now. My 17 buff orpington babies are now 3 weeks old, almost fully feathered and taking several hour long field trips outside in the coup and run on sunny days but still living inside the house full time. I absolutely love them! I am excited to be joining the community and learning from and living with these sweet birds.

A little about me. I am 31 years old. I sew and make quilts and blankets for a living. I live with my handsome boyfriend, Patrick who is a Pediatric Cardiology nurse, in a house we recently purchased on 3 acres of land on Wadmalaw Island backing up to a salt water pond and a tidal creek.

I have the sweetest alapaha bulldog named Tallulah Belle who thinks she is the biddies mommy. We have 3 cats - a morbidly obese deaf dwarf nubby tail manx named Karma, a long haired orange tabby cat named Norbert and a brown and buff tabby named Loretta. The newest members of our little family are our 17, 3 week old, buff orpington chicks that we got at 3 days old (16 pullets and 1 suspected roo) named Mildred, Chickadee, Ethel, Bullah, Gladys, Nettie, Rose, Blanche, Pearl, Mabel, Clara, Gretchen, Marigold, Deloris, Bertha, Fannie Mae and Ester/Dexter.

We are looking into getting some guinea keets in the near future. I look forward to watching our flock grow and learning more about them through BYC and from personal experience. We had chickens as I was growing up and I absolutely loved them. So excited that we have the space and ability to keep them again.

Nice to meet yall!

Thanks for the warm welcome yall. The biddies are getting so big. We have them running around in the coup today. I gave them some leftover spaghetti noodles from lunch and some strawberries and they loved fighting over the noodles but could have cared less about the strawberries. Right now all Mabel wants to do is take dirt/sand baths in the corner of the coup. She is filthy. I think they are almost big enough to live outside full time but I feel like I am going to have some crazy separation anxiety over them being outside at night. Makes me sad how fast they have grown/are growing. But they are feathering so gorgeous. Suspected roo has a red comb now and under his chin is red too. his feathers are finally coming in on his back. Such a little bully but I think he is my favorite. Millie is my attention hog and if you are anywhere near them she expects to be held constantly. Bertha and Buela are just fat, all they do is eat. Bertha actually sleeps with her head in the feeder sometimes. I love their personalities coming out. Gretchen is mean and pecks at me and at the other birds - I keep telling her we are going to have to eat her if she doesn't learn to play well with others. I bet she will be my broodie girl.

How's everyone doing this wonderful saturday?
