(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I bought 8 chickens and their coop from a friend in 2016.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 30... what? Um, yeah THIRTY!! One rooster, 9 laying hens, about 4 years old (free loaders!), 13 sixteen week old pullets, and 7 nine week old pullets.
(3) What breeds do you have? Barred Rock, Wyandotte, Ameraucana, ISA brown, Midnight Majesty Maran, Easter Egger, White Leghorn, Prairie Blue Bell Egger, and a few mutts. Our rooster is of unknown mix breed.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Chickens are silly and fun to watch. I love to see them out in the yard wandering around. We live in the country and the neighbors enjoy seeing them as well.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? So when I am not busy chasing critters, I like to work on our old autos and visit with my husband. I am crocheting an apron for eggs! I hope the girls are done molting soon, no eggs!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Our 2 legged children have grown and moved out, so we are empty nesters. Working with a local dog rescue, we fostered many pups for years. That rescue has closed, but we have 6 dogs to keep! We have rescued squirrels, pigeons, dogs, cats, and a rooster (in a few days!) Never a dull moment...
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I have had many questions about chicken things, illness, feed, medications, injuries and such. When I looked on the internet, BYC was constantly coming up with many articles and blogs about interesting chicken topics. I chose to join so that I have ready access to other chicken lovers' knowledge and experience.
