We are new to raising chickens. We live in eastern Washington. My husband and father are busy building our coop. I have been studying this sight for awhile now, looking at the coops posted here and getting ideas for our coop. We are getting our chicks this week. I think I am more excited than the kids are! Would welcome any and all advice. We get cold winters and hot summers. We are wanting chickens for the eggs. I have ideas on breeds, but would love advice. Thanks!

Hi and :welcome

If you're looking for layers, sex links are probably the best. They're available from almost every feed store around here, and lay an egg a day for two years straight.
Buff orpingtons are very popular with families, as they're really friendly birds.

As for the whole temperature thing, I have no advice. I don't know much about many breeds, but our sex links have survived the hot summers fine.

Hope you find any advice you need on the forum. :frow
