Hello all!
I am here to introduce myself, since I'm sure at some point I'll have about a million questions about this adventure! I'm just gonna go with some of the "recommended questions"
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We are VERY new to chickens. I remember having a hen house when I was a child at my uncle's farm but I was 8, so this is really a new wonderful experience. We decided that the chickens could be a great learning experience for our children (we have a 4 year old and a 6 year old) and it would be wonderful to have them for company and the yummy eggs
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 4 baby chickens, they are about 2-4 weeks, differences in ages because we got them at the feed store so they had two different ages. We have named all 4 of them and the kids love love love them. My husband also loves them and we are currently building a coop (which I'll get pics up of soon) in the backyard.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I'm not to familiar with different breeds, but the guy at the store was nice enough to give us the basic info we have 1 Rhoad Island Red, 1 Black Sussex sex link, 1 speckled Sussex, and our last baby girl is all golden in color but she was bought after the other three so I have no clue what breed she is (I will get picks up soon) They are all very cute and very sweet and we are enjoying every minute!
Edit: She is a Golden Sex link, went by the shop today to make sure
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
We were looking at pictures of coops and ended up on the site. My husband, being the woodworker that he denies being got some plans together and modified the coop for our are so the chicks will have a run and a nice house with nesting boxes.
We are planning on finishing up the coop this week so I can get some pics up! I feel so lost but at the same time so excited. I have been reading every forum I can on the site so I can get a feel for what I need to do. My husband is in the military and we are stationed up here in Washington (just arrived this month) so I have no clue how the winter is even going to be... it will without a doubt be an adventure!
Nice to meet you all!
BTW...... This lil gif is amazing --->
