Hi there!

I've been lurking around on BYC for a couple of months now - I love reading about everyone's birds! But I finally gave in and decided to sign up. So hello! I used to raise poultry and I was active in 4-H. My favorite birds were my D'Anvers, OEGB, and my standard and bantam Naked Necks. I had quite the managerie of misc pet chickens too. Anyway, my last red standard naked neck passed away about seven years ago (I downsized to go to college but kept Boogie) and decided I would never again raise chickens. She was my buddy. We traveled around to Lake Chelan, California, Oregon, and Idaho together. Anyway, to make a long story short, my husband talked me into a pair of chickens again (and is now building a large coop - as if he plans to add to the family). He fell in love with our chickens as quickly as I did.

He loves tiny birds. Cute! So anyway, I just wanted to say hello.

Hi! You raise silkies? Don't they make the best mamas ever?

My partridge silkie hen loved to take in babies from other hens. She thought that the more babies she had, the better life was. She even adopted a baby duck once (and learned her lesson quickly after it discovered the swimming pool - she was so upset!) And baby silkies are sooo cute!

My husband thinks they look like poodles, hehe. He wanted silkies, I wanted seramas - so we settled for silkied seramas. It's so funny, when I was raising chickens in the 90's the only silkied chicken I knew of was the silkies - now silkied varieties are popping up everywhere! I just caught a silked americauna thread today. Those things were awesome! What's next in the silkied world, huh? But yes, nothing is more prim and proper than a little silkie mama with her proud little tuffet and flock of babies.
