Hi! I've had backyard chickens for over 10 years now, started with 2 hens and built up to half a dozen separate coops and segregated runs breeding different exotic birds. I have had Black Copper Marans, Easter Eggers, Blue-Laced Red Wyandottes, Speckled Sussex, several Polish and Silkie varieties, Rhode Island Reds, Buff Orpingtons, Lavender Orpingtons, Chocolate Orpingtons, White Sussex, Black Australorps, even Chocolate Muscovy ducks, and more breeds I can't think of off-hand. Recently we've downsized and are just trying to keep up with our family's egg consumption. Along the way, we adopted a couple of Great Pyrenees LGDs for protection. I love how the whole process brought a love of animals and their care to my children. Now my kids are 14, 16, 19, & 20 and I have a granddaughter, and I guess I have less demands on my time.
