Hello everyone
My son is joining 4H and our coop gets delivered tomorrow.... I am in Chester County and if anyone if near to us can you recommend where we should get our supplies...and even our chickens....Thanx

That's where I go for all my supplies. It's a good 25 minute drive for me but there's no place closer. They will also be getting chicks starting 2/24! They get the chicks from Ideal Hatchery located in Texas. You can look at the schedule and put an order in either by phone, in person or through email. They don't require a deposit. Randy the Chicken man is awesome and if you go in ask for him and he'll tell you everything you need.
If you are looking for a breeder I just found a local one in Collegeville. Baumegan Farm (https://www.facebook.com/BaumeganFarms on Facebook) and it looks to be a nice hobby farm with many different breeds. But since it's small you don't get the assortment you would from a hatchery but probably better looking birds.

I got my first chicks from Meyer hatchery last March and they really are nice birds. They're in Ohio and one of the reasons I chose them was because I didn't want them to have a long shipping time and possibly lose some birds in transit. Great customer service there but a lot of the rare breeds are already sold out for this year. I don't know what breeds you are looking for, but Pickering gets probably 35-40 different breeds over a 2 month time span. Pretty nice for a feed store! I have a small order in for April and all I can do is tell you... watch out... they are really addicting!!

Where are you getting your coop and how many chicks are you looking to get?
Hopefully your coop is coming early before the snow!!!

my coupe is being delivered tomorrow we are looking for just 6-8 birds. Not really interested in anything fancy just looking for good egg layers to teach my son responsibility and the process

Pickering sounds like the way to go. Decide what date is best for you to get them and then look at the breeds they have coming. Plymouth Barred Rock, any of the Production Birds, Black Australorp, or Sexlink varieties are good layers and typically good personalties and not flighty. But consider the Ameraucana (Easter Eggers) because your kids would love to see their blue, green or pinkish eggs!
