Hello, my name is Teresa and I am new to farming.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We just started chickens this spring (Cornish cross and freedom rangers) and just got our first khaki Campbell’s a few weeks ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We did 9 Cornish cross already this year and now have 12 more Cornish cross and 12 freedom rangers. We have 4 khaki Campbell’s
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Through google looking for advice
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like working with my hands...construction, knitting, etc. I am super nerdy. I follow the stock market and love sci-if shows. I use to love running and did a couple half marathons and a 25k, but I haven’t done much of that the last couple years. Working full time and farming gets pretty exhausting, so not much time for hobbies! I have a background in music and played trumpet in college. I still like to sing, but only in my classroom with my students or when I am alone in my Jeep.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am single, but my family inherited my great aunt’s farm, so we are trying to rehabilitate the land and start a farm. It’s 80 acres in total, but my side of the family only works 40 of it. The other 40 belongs to my uncle and his children. At the moment, I only have 1 dog, a cocker spaniel (my 14 year old rescue dog recently passed away), but I am looking forward to rescuing another dog some day. I teach at a Montessori school during the week and have been working in early childhood education for 15 years. I have been planting pumpkins to sell in the fall and love to build Charlie Brown sets out of wood for my lawn for Halloween and Christmas.
