Hi! Our family lives on 5 acres in an agricultural section of Davidson County, mostly wooded. We have 1 1yo chicken named Barbie, a Black Star hen, and 6 baby chicks growing up to keep her company. They are 2 Wyandottes, 2 Buff Orpington's, and one accidental Production Red or RI Red (clerk thought was a buff orp). The chicks are about 5 weeks old and we intend to keep just 3 for our free-range flock. Barbie's sister, Mable, fed a fox a few weeks back and we realized the error of keeping only two; lonely Barbie! We hope these new chickens will be as friendly the original gals. Svea, our 5 yo, had no trouble picking them up until the incident. Barbie has taken this long to return to normal friendly behavior.

The chickens lived happily with our 2 working cats, 4 dogs, and 2 horses. We love the free range eggs! We do lock up the girls at night for safety's sake. The fox struck in broad daylight :p No intentions of adding a rooster... Robert grew up on a farm and didn't know chickens could be such a fabulous addition to our family. Though we do find the plentiful chicken poop a bit challenging! If only they'd stay off the patio
