We have 6 12 week old "unknown" chickens, 5 hens, 1 rooster. 6 8 week old Cochin/ Americauna, also thinking 5 hens and 1 rooster. And 6 4 week old cherry eggers. I have lots of chicken questions as neither of us have ever had any! smile.png

My questions right now is regarding my rooster trying to mate one of my hens... Of the 12 week olds (I think they might be white rocks). She is missing feathers on her shoulders; I have seen him try to tread twice recently. She is the only hen who is squatting and turning red along with bigger waddles and comb! She lays down most of the time! Do you think the rooster is pulling those feathers out by her shoulder? She is the only one with that so it makes sense to me!

That is part of the damage roosters create. I rooster can handle 20 hens anything less and the hen(s) can get overbred and damaged.
