In the Brooder
Hello! New here and very new to raising chickens. I grew up on a cattle farm but we never had chickens!
We recently moved out of town and built a coop, anticipating taking on some year old chickens someone was wanting to give away to downsize their flock. It fell through and we found ourselves with a coop and no chickens!
To fix the situation, we just got ten chicks a few days ago from a (somewhat) local feed store. I’d say they range in age from a few days to two weeks. We hope we don’t lose too many - or any! - but we do not want roosters. We have a plan set up for them down the road to rehome them and keep only hens.
Right now we are navigating new chicken owner life and hopefully we are successful. We are very proud of our coop design and we are pretty sure we’ve done as much as we can to make it predator proof. The only things left to do are put down material in the run and seal off some cracks that may cause drafts. And landscaping! (Haha - we have some plants we inherited with the property that need transplanted and will look lovely near the coop.)
Fingers crossed we are doing this right so far!
I’ve included a photo of our coop and of our chicks.
