good morning everyone ..just wanted to say hello and tell you all a little about myself and my flock..i have 4 birds right now ..2 red sex links and 2 I beleave are golden comets...very good layers these ladys are ..I have a few additions coming in the mail around the 9th of april..I ordered 5 welsummers pullets and 1 cockerel..i also ordered 10 columbean wyanddotte.and 15 cochin bantams for a friend..

i am a 50 yrs old man and just started raising chickens last yr when i came home from the tractor store with 6 birds...2 turned out to be roosters and i gave them to my daughters boyfriends sister to raise for the 4-h..they were speckled sussexs and were very nice birds but i was afraid my neighbors would run me out of town ..anyways she took them to our county fair and won a bunch of blue ribbons ..and wouldn't ya know my neighbors wanted to know why the roosters stopped crowing and that they enjoyed hearing them in the morning ..kinda of figures ya know ..lol..so that's why i ordered a new rooster and who doesn't love corny the cornflakes rooster ..i spent plenty of morning staring at that bird on the box ..lol..i love my birds and they seem to like me too..i no some get rid of birds once they stop laying but my flock will always have a home here even when the stop laying ..we look at our animals as family ..and i wouldn't think of eating my children..lol

ok .. i know i was just suppost to say hello ..so hello..

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, many of us keep our birds long after they stop laying or are being productive. They can still bring joy to our hearts.

Great to have you aboard and enjoy all your poultry adventures!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Lucky you have a neighbor who likes roosters! Welsummers are beautiful roosters, even green ones on the cereal box! Sounds like you had some beautiful Specked Sussex roos too, great job at the 4-H fair with them.

thanks for the welcome everyone..i have been visiting you all here for awhile and am learning a lot .more reading then one can do in a yrs time ..lol

yeah kelsie,it was kind of crazy thing..they both blew out these beuatiful looking green tail feathers amonth before the fair..i was so proud to see those blue ribbons and that those were my birds ..
I was worried about what would happen to them after the fair, but a nice family bought the roosters because their 4yr old was not afraid of them and they were calm and very friendly with the little boy when he held them ..I miss them now ..but I drive by their place every now and then and I can see they have an awesome home with lots of ladys ..they both have a sm flock of hens each in different pens ..but they do seem happy ..

thanks again for the welcome folks..its a great place to learn you guys have here ..

I enjoyed your story very much. There is a place on BYC for "pictures and stories of my chickens," and I think that would be a great post to continue your adventures. I know I would like to read more about them.
