I am just beginning to learn about chickens. We are moving the end of May and the new place is perfect for me to start a chicken family! There is a 10x10 nice shed I will make into a coop and plenty of space to fence in there yard. I have learned I have a lot to learn! Lol Any suggestions on turning a shed into a coop or breeds for SD climate? I have a 4 yr old girl and want her to be involved so looking for friendly breeds :-) looking forward to this adventure. TIA

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. Exciting times ahead for sure!

If you take a look at the breeds section, you may get some inspiration as to what kind of breeds may suit you. I'd then suggest getting a variety from that shortlist to begin with - it will help you know for sure which breeds you prefer in the future.

As YCoop says, theres lots of designs in the Coop section. I use my shed as a coop, but did mine on a minuscule budget (branches for roosts and some plastic basins on a shelf for nest boxes (although I'm sure you'd wish to do something a little more "classy").
