I love to see the different personalities. I alo wanted my own fresh eggs, although I could get them from my uncle next door free of charge whenever I want. There is something satisfying about having your own eggs from chicks you raised from babies. I am slowly trying to create a little mini farm for myself. I am planting a small garden this year as well. Although I had chickens when I was about 11, I never have done a garden so that will be something new for me. I am hoping next year to incorporate something new like maybe dairy goats. I don't eat red meat or prok because of a digestive disorder I have but chicken, eggs and vegetables would be great. I think your children are going to learn a lot from having the chickens and knowing where the eggs and babies come from. Nothing like bringing in an egg from the nest and cooking something with it to really teach them how it all comes together. Hope you will be sharing your experiences with us.
 
Well my Easter chicken I got that's 1 years old laid her first egg last night. My daughter and I went in there to check on her and there was a egg! My daughter and I were so happy Hailie ran in the house to show daddy her egg she found! He prob thought we were crazy lol. This was very cool. Hope she lays another one tonight.
 
My babies won't be laying any eggs until the latter part of this year. I told my bf he could get the first egg since he is sort of a city fella. I think he is getting more excited about it all. This is completely new to him. I asked him "Didn't you have any friends who had chickens?" He said "No" Everyday he calls me during lunch and asks about the babies. We go out there several times during the afternoon and look at them. They grow very fast. Sometimes we dig up a few worms and let them all chase one another to see who finally gets to eat it. It doesn't matter how old you are, getting that first egg is really exciting.
