. My daughter and I have been rasing all kinds of poultry for 4H. We have 17 birds that consists of standard Cochins, leghorns, gold stars, two mixed breed hens, a Americana, and two bantam Cochins. We are always learning and sharing what we learn!

Welcome back to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. I've had all of your breeds at one time or another and you have some wonderful breeds. Of course, Gold Stars aren't actually a breed, but a hybrid produced by crossing a red gene rooster with a silver gene hen. Gold Star is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, and not only can they be sexed by color from hatching, but they are egg laying machines, outlaying either parent breed. It's one of the interesting quirks of hybridization. You should get loads of eggs from those ladies. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

We're glad to have you.

You have a lovely Blue Cochin rooster. Do you show your chickens often?

No we just show at the fair. I absolutely love my standard Cochins. They are so majestic and friendly birds. We also a a gorgeous splash rooster. And black, and splash hens. I will be setting up my incubator soon and hope to hatch out some Cochin chicks soon!
