Welcome to BYC.

Do you own horses? Beautiful animal in your avater!

~AnnElise

Hi, AnnElise!

Thank you!

I do own the horse in my avater. He's a seven year old appendix quarter horse. I'd love to own more but he's all I can afford right now hehe

Hello everyone!

After perusing BYC for almost two months I decided to join.  I've learned so much already and am excited to learn more!
I will be getting my first ever chicks in about a week and a half!!!! I am so excited!!!  And the chicken math is already happening.  First it was going to be six chickens, now I'm up to 10...or maybe 12 would be better...lol
I'm getting Easter Eggers and Barred Rocks from Ideal Poultry.
I already have my brooder all set up and have been monitoring the temps under the brooder lamp, which has been driving me crazy because it won't stay stable.  From what I've read on the forums here this is all normal new to brooding nerves hehe.
I do not have my chicken coop and run set up yet.  Yes, I know, bad idea.  I have most of the materials though!  I took apart a friend's shed to get the wood for my chicken house and I already have my 1 foot deep trench dug for the run (I had lots of help from my brother and sister!!!).  But now we have over a foot of snow on the ground :/   and it keeps snowing and then it snows some more...blech...
I'm excited to add chickens to my menagerie of animals. I'm a big animal lover, but this is my first venture into "productive animals".
I'm starting a "chicken garden" in the spring and I'm doing lots of research on how to grow most of my own feed for the chickens...
Sorry, I'm starting to ramble!
Anyway, I'm totally excited to be part of this community. I'm looking forward to making new friends! :)

Hi Maev,I am also new to BYC and I am from Harrah,Wa not far from Yakima. My husband and I started building our chicken house back in January and the addiction started. It's more like a maze. Two chicken house's and three outside pens that are all connected yet can be closed at any point. We also have 40 chickens that are so tame. Some want to sit in our lap all the time and cuddle. They are our babies!I hope you enjoy your chickens as much as we have. This hobby should come with some kind of warning!
