I am Gail. I started three years ago with six chickens in my backyard. I fell in love with them. So much so we bought five acres just outside town and built a bigger coop. The following spring we got six more hens. We have gradually been clearing land for them to spread out. Our local feed store got us to adopt two more hens and a rooster. Over the time we have lost four hens, one got sick two went to predators and one just disappeared. This spring we got twelve babies one of whom died after only a week. The others are growing well And will soon be laying except for one who turned out to be a rooster. One of our second group went missing and came home three weeks later with ten chickens. So now we have 32 chickens and sell the eggs to pay for feed
