I used a regular light bulb...not a heat lamp and mind got way too hot.

Here’s a pic of my setup.

The thermometer should be laying on the eggs for a more accurate reading, but it sounds like you’re doing something right.
Do you keep an eye on humidity?

In the Midwest. It’s about mid 80’s to lower 90’s here right now. I have them in our garage where it’s humid.
