Hi everyone! My chickens were given to me at a time when we weren't ready yet, although we've been talking about having them. I originally wanted white leghorns for meat since we had them when I was a very young kid and I'm surprised that people have them for eggs too! Anyway, my chickens are - based on my google research: rhode island reds, barred rock, polish. Some 2 weeks ago, I witnessed my rir's catch a mouse and they all went crazy in the coop running after the one having the mouse and the poor thing died as it got passed from one chicken to the other. I have observed that these chickens are more interested in grazing or eating scraps I bring them than eating their cracked corn. When they do eat the corn, they like it wet so I've been giving them wet feed. I am a gardener too-- it's just my second year gardening-- and I love spending time in the garden and smelling that wonderful tomato plant scent and just staring at the growing plants. And I enjoy watching the chickens too after I have fed them and changed their water. Anyone else getting mesmerized by all these living things that we look after?
