Hi! I am brand new to BYC and am so far loving it ;)
I have 4 roosters: 3 silkies and 1 sultan.
I have five hens (1 silkie, 1 ameracauna, and 1 sultan) and three baby chicks (Just hatched :D)!
I know most people wouldn't have so many roosters, but I was hoping they would all be female when we bought them. I just can't give them away! The silkies are almost as cute as baby puppies! And all of my roosters follow me around and they don't usually jump and attack you...
I am having troubles with my baby chicks though :\ My momma hen rejected one of the babies, but nothing is wrong with it! I tried to reintroduce the baby but she pecked at it. I was thinking maybe it was because it wasn't her chick by blood....? It was my sultan's fertilized egg that I put under my brooding silkie. It just is so sad to see a momma reject a day-old baby :'(
Any suggestions?

I don't think it has anything to do with blood,we have had hens raise babies that weren't theirs lots before.....so I'm not sure whats up with your hen....was the chick touched by people to much?

When the chick was born I picked her up to check her out, but after that I just left her with the momma. I only started to notice the pecking when the momma went out to eat and the chicks followed her.

Well maybe she doesn't want them out of the nest? Maybe you should just keep the baby chick away from her and raise it yourself,when our hens go broody we let them hatch the chicks then only leave a chick in there for one day then we move them to the 'chick box'
I hope this helps or maybe someone else will see this and can help you out more then i am.
Is she hurting the chick bad?

Thank you! You guys are so helpful. I have the chick in a different box right now, but I haven't put the other chicks in with her because I am afraid that she might be sick and thats why she got kicked out. The momma isn't going crazy trying to kill her, she just pulls out some baby feathers which each peck.
