Hello! House sitter here wanting to know more about the birds we are looking after!

Hi there,

We are Ellie and Matt house sitters looking after about 14 chickens. More in the last few days as we have hatched some little babies!!!!

We have been searching on this forum to answer loads of our questions, and decided it was a good time to register as this place seems like a nice place to be!

We have 4 Marans and some little white hens, and a few black ones, which I guess are spanish (maybe blue white face spanish, but with less of the white face). We are loving looking after them, and have loved having the opportunity to hatch some chicks by ourselves, it's great, the chicks are absolutely the cutest!

We have had a few emergencies already 2 of the chicks got kicked out of the nest and were cold and not moving, but with help from this site, we got them warmed back up and now they look to be healthy little things. It was amazing, see them come back like that.

Only thing is now we just have to wait and see how many of the little chicks turn out to be males and then they will have to go at some point

This is a great resource so thanks to everyone for making it the way it is!

Nice to meet you Ellie & Matt, Welcome to Backyard chickens. If you need to know breed/gender of chicks 6-8 weeks of age or older , please post photos at "what breed or gender is this." and the folks there may be able to sort them out for you.
