Hello! I’m so excited to be a part of BYC! I’m on the FB page and have come here for help in the past, so I’m excited to finally join in on all the chicken fun.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens, we bought our first chicks in March and we finally have 2/14 starting to lay now at 18 weeks!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
14
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have 4 buff orpingtons, 4 silver laced Wyandottes, 2 black australorps, 1 white crested black polish roo
,
1 blue laced red Wyandotte roo
, 1 Easter EGGER, and 1 Rhode Island Red.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love how my kids have gotten into it. They are so eager to be responsible for the chickens. They feed, clean, carry around, and chat with all of them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We ride horses, ski, garden, fish, hunt, and I really love napping
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I’m a mom to 2 awesome girls (8 & 10), and I’m married to a man who supports my wannabe farmer dreams. We own 2 coffee shops and a coffee
Roaster, and we are considering getting into raising beef cattle next year. We have 3 horses, 2 rabbits, 1 cat, and 3 dogs. One of our dogs is a 6 month old Colorado Mountain Dog who is being trained as a poultry guardian for our chickens to protect them from foxes, skunks, raccoons, coyotes, hawks, mountain lions, neighboring dogs, and other predators.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC because I was trying to see what gender my chicks were
