(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes! I am new to chickens, we first got our chickens last April, so this has been one full year of owning chickens!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have 14 chickens and three ducks!
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have 4 Ayam Cemani’s, 3 Buff Orpington’s, 2 Barred Polymouth Rock’s, 3 Cinnamon Queen’s, and 2 Australop’s. Then we have one Cayuga and two mallards!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love watching the chickens in the morning and watch their interactions with each other. They bring a new sense of responsibility to my life that I really enjoy! And ever since I was young I’ve always wanted a farm, and I feel like getting chickens has been the first step!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love to do art! Most any types of medium! I also enjoy archeryand horseback riding!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live in a family of eight, 5 sibling and my mother and father. We moved to Indiana almost two years ago and started our flock a year ago. I’m currently still in school, but will be graduation soon. I own a cat named Chester, who is almost 5 years old now!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found this community while we were getting ready for chickens, and they year we had them. It’s been helpful with problems we’ve had and I’ve decided to join so that I can be able to ask questions that I’d need answered by more experienced people!
