Hello! I’ve seen a couple of the forums here and finally decided I should join in some discussions!

I’m an Aussie so please excuse my slang, and currently have 19 chickens and a peacock.
My family has had chooks for quite a while, but about 3 years ago I took a proper interest in them and started looking after them. (The only benefit of lockdown!)
For my chooks breeds, we’ll that’s a little difficult to answer. We have a silkie “hen” who we bought, and a Polish chook who somehow hatched from not so polish parents, and 2 orphintons, one of which is a bantam. but apart from that I’m not very sure what breeds my chooks are. Most of them are descended from a rooster I got from a friend, who we don’t know the breed of, though a few would be part light sussex from one of our hens who is no longer with us.
My favourite part about raising my chooks is getting to know them, Dawn is a silly rooster who can’t impress the hens, Kiki is super curious and friendly, Charlotte has to be the rudest chicken I’ve ever met. I also love when new chooks start to trust me, and the sassy looks they give strangers. So much personality!
For other hobbies, I really enjoy art related things, many of my chooks have drawing or painting some of them. I also do gymnastics and soccer (technically the soccer season just ended but oh well). I’d also consider my watching of the Matilda’s (Aussie women’s soccer team for anyone unaware) practically a hobby. The next few hens I get will probably be named after some of the players.
For some other random facts about me, well, I have an ‘All Abilities’ area for any chook who might be sick. I’m still unfortunately at school and under my parents care, so I’m apparently not allowed to buy 7 million chickens. (I actually quite enjoy school and obviously love my parents.) My brother accidentally started a tradition of mine when he suggested the name ‘Duck’ for one of my chickens. ( we’ve now also had Falcon, Goose, Albatross, phoenix, Ibis and Hawk.)
Each chicken has a small chance of their name being spelled in a ridiculous way, my rooster ‘Tphil’, the T is silent, and Hhhhholly, all he’s are silent except the third one.
If anyone actually read to the end of this, I’m very proud of you. I’ll throw you a barbecue or something else Australian.
Well, thanks for reading.
Welcome to BYC!! :)
