Is she really a pullet or a cockerel? We were told that she should start laying eggs anytime that she was 16 weeks old and that the rooster had been mating with her.

Welcome to BYC! She looks like a pullet to me (I don't see any hackle feathers). Cochins are slow to mature, but she should be laying eggs sometime between 20-25 weeks.

We can't find any hackle feathers either. Her (as we call it) feathers look the same as our other 9 100% for sure pullets but this is the only cochin we have and I don't know very much about them.

Hey there

. Welcome to BYC. Not sure.?!? This is my first year with chicks, and they are only 11 weeks old. Good luck with yours.

It's been a long time since I've had Cochins, both sexes have a mass of feathers, and my eyesight isn't what it used to be, so Kelsie2290 may be correct and it may be a cockeral. Are there any other BYC members out there to weigh in on this?
